Evazio invites you to discover the Camargue, on the Mediterranean coast and in the Rhone delta, through Nordic walking. This is a land dedicated to protecting nature and the environment. Numerous animal and plant species live side by side: bulls, horses, birds and pink flamingos. On foot or by bike, lovers of wide-open spaces can discover the Parc Naturel Régional de Camargue. Trails wind along the dykes. Indeed, the face of today’s Camargue has been shaped by man for over a century.

In particular, the “Gardian”, bull breeders in their “manade” who tamed the land by building dykes, rice fields, salt pans and huts. The Rhone delta has created a unique place, a salty mix of land and water, the Camargue. A wilderness protected for its natural riches, it is a land of character, forged by a nature that is not always easy, so much so that the national nature reserve, created in 1927, is a veritable paradise for bird species of all kinds, as well as for flora and fauna.

Nordic walking in these protected areas will enable you to observe numerous species of birds and mammals. The Camargue is also a kingdom of colors: the blue of the sea and ponds, the white of horses and salt, the black of bulls, the pink of flamingos, the green of rice fields, the yellow of the sun… Picturesque and timeless, the Camargue and its natural heritage are protected lands. Your Nordic walk in the heart of a wild and secret land, this region will also delight heritage lovers thanks to the towns of Arles, Saintes Maries de la Mer and Aigues-Mortes.

Daily program

Day 1

Meet at 11.10am in front of NIMES SNCF station, boulevard side – downtown. Transfer by minibus to Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. Meeting point at 12:15pm at the hotel for those arriving by car. Presentation and picnic. Short initiation on the beach. Pace yourself towards Franquevaux, around the Cougourlier marsh and the Canal du Rhône à Sète. Lunch at a restaurant in town.3 hours of nw – ascent: 10 meters – descent: 10 meters.

Day 2

Transfer 1h15′ (we cross the Camargue) to Piémanson beach, near the mouth of the Rhône, in a landscape at the end of the world; Nordic walking in the sand, dunes and seaside; walking in the sand releases tension with regular strides. Active recovery facing the sea. Discovery walk and visit to the Pont de Gau ornithological park.

Ascent of a salt dune.3 hours nw – ascent: 15 meters – descent: 15 meters.

Day 3

To the canal that leads to the Fort de Peccaïs, another end of the world: back and forth between marshes, old salt pans, lagoons, towpaths, Camargue landscape and history. Finding your style, muscle strengthening. Stretching. Transfer to the medieval city of Aigues-Mortes, former port of departure for the Crusades. Free visit. Visit to the Tour Carbonnières.

Dinner in town.3 hours nw – ascent: 10 metres – descent: 10 metres.

Day 4

Center du Scamandre: walks and discovery trails, exhibition on the natural environment. Introduction to active walking. Transfer to Cailar, land of bulls and horses. Nordic sticks propel us along the Vieux Vistre and into the vineyards of Costières de Nîmes.

3 to 4 hours nw – ascent: 80 metres – descent: 80 metres.

Day 5

A loop along the edge of the park and the sea, towards the Gacholle lighthouse and the Pointe de Mouillot; a land of pink flamingos and birds. Return via the beach and stretch out facing the sea, before handing in the poles. Luggage collection at the hotel and end of the tour around 4:30pm at the NIMES SNCF train station.

We take care of transporting your luggage every time you change accommodation, so you can travel light and enjoy your day’s hiking.

Leave your luggage at the reception desk of your accommodation before departure.

At the end of the afternoon, you’ll meet them at the reception desk of your new accommodation or directly in your room.

Luggage accepted per person: 1 suitcase or travel bag (20 kg maximum) + 1 carry-on.

We remind you that rental bicycles are equipped with panniers that you can use to carry any items you may need for the day.

Your travel file corresponds to the documents or files you receive prior to your trip (usually one month before) and on arrival at your first accommodation.

Download the “Evazio” application onto your smartphone for GPS navigation with visual (reading the route on your smartphone screen) and/or spoken guidance.
The application also contains practical and tourist information. Once the trip has been downloaded, no Internet connection is required.
