Hiking in the Côtes d’Armor in Brittany, France

With 350 km of coastline sculpted by the ocean on Brittany’s northern coastline, the Côtes-d’Armor offers the most extravagant seascapes on this walking tour. Fine sand or pebble beaches and pink or black cliffs. Twice a day, the rhythm of the tides orchestrates a symphony of colors. The Côtes-d’Armor is also home to a myriad of seabirds, wild flowers and, above all, a rich and mysterious history, from the menhirs and dolmens of the Neolithic period to Christianity and the Celtic influence.

Leaving from Paimpol, the famous Breton fishing port, you’ll discover the natural wonders and other curiosities of this part of Brittany between the islands of Bréhat and Ploumanach. The “sentier des douaniers” (customs path) offers breathtaking panoramas of the open sea and the chaotic, chiseled coastline for which this coastline is famous.

You’ll walk along the surprising “sillon de Talbert”, a 3 km-long tongue of sand and pebbles set against the sea, a paradise for seabirds of all kinds. You’ll discover the rich vegetation of the island of Bréhat, walk along beautiful beaches and cliffs, and be blown away by the shades of sea blue. A real invitation to swim!

You’ll reach the charming village of Tréguier at the end of the Jaudy estuary. Its cathedral and narrow streets of half-timbered houses are well worth a visit. A tour of the Plougrescant peninsula also has some surprises in store. The famous “Maison entre les rochers” is just one example.

As you walk along, you’ll appreciate the gradual gradation in color of the granite, from gray to pink, with an exceptional finale at Ploumanach, north of Perros-Guirec, facing the archipelago of seven islands. A postcard setting not to be missed!

You'll enjoy :

  • Paimpol and its famous fishing port.
  • Ile de Bréhat, one of Brittany’s most beautiful islands.
  • One of Brittany’s most beautiful coasts: the Pink Granite Coast.
  • The ever-present sea.
  • Local specialities: crêpes, galettes, cider… not forgetting Kouign Amann!

Daily program

Day 1 - Arrival in Paimpol

The 19th century in the Paimpol region was the era of “great fishing”. Fishermen set off for several months to the coasts of Newfoundland and Iceland. They were known as “Newfoundlanders” or “Icelanders”.

Many ships disappeared at sea, and every family in the region knew at least one sailor who had died. This period forged Paimpol’s strong identity and the character of its inhabitants.

Your hotel is located near the port, just a 5-minute walk away.

Dinner and overnight in Paimpol.

Day 2 - The island of Bréhat

You can choose to visit the 13th-century Beaufort Abbey, or take a tour of the flower-filled island of Bréhat. For the latter, you’ll need to take the boat north of Paimpol.

You’ll be amazed by the number of exotic plants brought back from the four corners of the globe by local sailors. Hydrangeas, laurels, mimosas and eucalyptus will amaze you all day long.

Overnight in Paimpol.

Day 3 - From Paimpol to Tréguier

At the start of the day, a cab will take you to Sillon de Talbert, the meeting point for the day’s walk. You’ll follow the pretty coastline to reach Tréguier on the River Jaudy.

Overnight in Tréguier.

Day 4 - From Tréguier to Port Blanc

Today’s tour of the Plougrescant peninsula will delight nature lovers. The pebble beaches, several meters high, are home to a remarkable flora, including sea cabbage and horned poppy. At Port-Blanc, you can enjoy a fine sandy beach for a dip in the sea, a digestive stroll or simply a drink on your hotel terrace while admiring the sun melting into the sea.

Overnight in Port Blanc.

Day 5 - From Port Blanc to Perros-Guirec

The road to Perros-Guirec is a delight. You’ll be charmed by the splendor of the seascapes, the many villas with gardens in bloom all year round with mimosas, geraniums, camellias… and wild beds of broom, heather and orchids.

Overnight in Perros Guirec.

Day 6 - The 7 islands archipelago

Perros-Guirec is a mecca for seaside tourism in the Côte d’Armor. From your hotel, facing the sea and the 7 islands, it may be difficult to make choices. A good alternative would be a morning outing to the 7 Islands bird sanctuary. Created in 1912, you can observe gannets, puffins, razorbills, guillemots, crested cormorants, northern fulmars… You can return on foot along the pink granite coast path, from the magnificent little port of Ploumanach.

Overnight in Perros Guirec.
