Hiking between the Ballons des Vosges and the vineyards of Alsace
Here’s a hike in the Haut-Rhin department that brings together two of Alsace’s must-sees: the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park and the famous Alsace wine route. Hiking in historic Alsace!
Alsace is a particularly good region for hiking, thanks to the many signposted trails and the variety of landscapes: vineyards, crops, forests, pastures and high thatches. As Alsace has a rich and turbulent past, the pleasure of admiring the scenery is matched by the pleasure of taking a trip back in time.
Leaving from Eguisheim, one of the most beautiful villages on the wine route, just a stone’s throw from Colmar, we propose a walking tour in a loop to attack some of the peaks and passes of this gentle mountain of the Vosges massif, alternating mid-mountain scenery, panoramic views over the Alsace plain and the Vosges valleys, picturesque villages and historic stages.
You’ll discover a number of centuries-old castles offering spectacular views over the Alsace plain and the Black Forest. These troglodytic fortresses will tell you all about the tumultuous history of this region between the 12th and 18th centuries. Also on the program are some lovely hikes between the Vosges peaks, green forested valleys and vine valleys. Stages punctuated by charming, typically Alsatian villages: Labaroche, Munster, Wintzfelden Gueberschwihr or Kaysersberg and Eguisheim, voted France’s favorite village, where you can recharge your batteries with one of the local specialties: tarte flambée!
You’ll stay in a 3* hotel every night. Don’t forget to round off your hiking vacation in Alsace with a visit to Colmar and its “Little Venice” district, or Strasbourg and its unmissable “Little France”.
You'll enjoy :
- The villages of the Alsace Wine Route
- Arrival at Eguisheim and Hohlandsbourg castles
- Panoramic views over the Alsace plain
- The pleasure of crossing the Vosges passes and summits
