Your stay

Massif du Ventoux and Lubéron by bike, in Vaucluse

This short cycling holiday in the Ventoux and Lubéron mountain ranges allows you to explore the magnificent Vaucluse department in the heart of Provence. This cycling itinerary is designed for regular cyclists. It is, however, accessible to all with an electric bike. Starting in Bédoin, at the foot of Mont Ventoux, and ending in Roussillon in the Lubéron region, the route features daily stages that allow you to enjoy the region to the full, with options offering à la carte levels of difficulty. For example, you can opt to climb the legendary Mont Ventoux, or wander through the Gorges de la Nesque, or take a detour to pedal closer to the Dentelles de Montmirail, or a little further on to reach the village of Gordes.

On this cycling tour, you’ll cross the wine-growing landscapes of the Côtes du Rhône and their famous villages of Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Beaumes de Venise, at the foot of the magnificent Dentelles de Montmirail. You’ll climb the “Giant of Provence”, also known as “Mont Chauve” or “Magic Mountain”, which is the Ventoux, a mithyic stage of the Tour de France, or bypass it via the gorges de a Nesque, a wild and grandiose canyon with spectacular views. You’ll cross the lavender fields towards Sault and stroll through some of France’s most beautiful villages, such as Séguret, close to the Ventoux, or Gordes and Roussillon in the Lubéron, famous for its ochre colors and its “sentier des ocres”.

You can also stay in Fontaine de Vaucluse, home to the santon museum and famous for its chasm.

You'll enjoy :

  • Tour of the Dentelles de Montmirail, between rocky cliffs and famous wine villages
  • The chance to climb the legendary Mont Ventoux
  • The beautiful winding road of the Gorges de la Nesque
  • A romantic stretch through lavender fields
  • The Luberon villages of Fontaine de Vaucluse and Roussillon

Daily program

Day 1 - Arrival in Mazan (or Avignon for those arriving by train or plane)

Overnight stay and breakfast in Mazan or Avignon

Day 2 - Loop around the Dentelles de Montmirail from Mazan or Bédoin

If you don’t bring your own bike, after breakfast you’ll be transferred to Bédoin to collect your bikes. If you have spent the night in Avignon, transfer by cab to Mazan.

Our loop is offered with a long and a shorter option. The long option takes you to the small village of Suzette (1080 m), which extends the loop by 20 km.

You’ll pass through some of the most remarkable wine villages in the Dentelles de Montmirail region, including Beaumes-de-Venise, Vacqueyras and Gigondas.

Overnight in Mazan

Day 3 - from Mazan to Sault via the gorges de la Nesque or Ventoux

You can choose between climbing the “Giant of Provence” or following a slightly less demanding route through the magnificent “Gorges de la Nesque”. The first option takes you up the mythical Tour de France climb from Bédoin to Mont Ventoux.

The second option is to discover the “Gorges de la Nesque” with its breathtaking panoramas.

Whichever option you choose, you’ll spend the evening and night in Sault, a pretty little Provencal village scented with lavender (at least from early July to mid-August).

Dinner, overnight stay and breakfast in hotel

Day 4 - from Sault to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse

You’ll cycle along a route of exceptional beauty, through forests, green hills and timeless villages bordered by vineyards and orchards… Along the way, stop off in the small village of Venasque, one of France’s most beautiful villages. From Venasque, the terrain will be in your favor! Your destination is the village of Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. Nestling at the foot of the Monts du Vaucluse, this village boasts the fifth-largest underground spring in the world… not to be missed!

Night and breakfast in hotel

Day 5 - from Fontaine-de-Vaucluse to Roussillon

Following your pre-programmed GPS, you’ll reach the village of Gordes. Perched on a hilltop, it is also one of France’s 144 “most beautiful villages”. Old stone buildings line the many narrow cobbled streets. All these lanes lead to the Château de Gordes, the village’s landmark. From here, you’ll pass by the magnificent Sénanque Abbey. Continue on through the hilltop villages of Ménerbes, Bonnieux and Lacoste before reaching Roussillon. Depending on your chosen option, you’ll spend the night in your hotel in Roussillon (comfort version) or Gargas (superior version).

Night and breakfast in hotel

Day 6 - Return transfer and departure.

After breakfast, we’ll organize a transfer to Mazan or Avignon, so you can continue your adventure on your own.
