Your stay
Cycle along the Canal de Garonne from Toulouse to Bordeaux.
Your bike tour from Toulouse to Bordeaux will start on the first section of the Canal des Deux Mers, linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean, as an extension of the Canal du Midi. This “Canal de Garonne à vélo” tour will amaze you with the riches of the Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées regions, linking Toulouse, the pink city and capital of the violet, to Bordeaux, the world’s most famous vineyard… Two emblematic cities of France and the South-West, each with its own character!
From Toulouse, cycle along the waterways to the start of the Garonne Canal. You’ll travel through magnificent natural landscapes and medieval bastides such as Damazan and Mas d’Agenais. And let’s not forget Moissac, nestled at the confluence of the Tarn and Garonne rivers, a mecca of Romanesque art, with the cloister of its abbey church… one of the most beautiful in the world! The tour then continues along the canal, punctuated by 53 locks and several remarkable engineering structures. We recommend the water slope at Montech and the famous canal bridge at Agen. This impressive canal bridge, over 500 metres long, provides access to the center of Agen, with its 2,000-year history and capital of the prune. You’ll then pedal along a greenway through the Entre-deux-Mers vineyards at the gateway to Bordeaux. Magnificent natural landscapes unfold before your eyes. As you cycle along vineyards, hillsides and orchards, you’ll pass through numerous bastide towns and small villages in the South-West of France, where the gentle pace of life is so evident.
To complete your Toulouse Bordeaux bike tour in the South-West, why not spend 1 or 2 days in Bordeaux? The emblematic wine capital and historic city with its UNESCO World Heritage-listed quays awaits you! Don’t forget to visit the famous Saint-Emilion and Médoc vineyards. If you wish, we can also offer this tour in the opposite direction, from Bordeaux to Toulouse.
You'll enjoy :
- The Cloister of the Abbey of Moissac, at the mouth of the river Tarn
- A pleasant cycle path between canal and century-old plane trees dotted with locks
- The many remarkable engineering structures along the route, such as the Canal Bridge at Agen
- The hidden treasures of the surrounding villages: Auvillar’s circular grain market or the Rembrandt in Mas d’Agenais
- A majestic finish along the quays of Bordeaux, a UNESCO World Heritage site
Daily program
Day 1 - Arrival in Toulouse "La Ville Rose
You’ll be given your bike, documentation on the region and a route booklet indicating your itinerary. Toulouse is well worth a long visit, with its famous Place du Capitole and the quays of the Garonne, a magical place at sunset. A city of distinctive architecture, Toulouse is nicknamed the “pink city” because of the terracotta bricks used to build its houses. Its other nickname is the “city of violets”, a flower that you can taste in all its forms!

This 67-kilometer stage takes place on a safe and quiet greenway, always shaded by plane trees. The cycle path takes you to Montech and its water slope, one of the most beautiful engineering structures in Tarn-et-Garonne. Day 3 - From Moissac to Sérignac sur Garonne
- 60 km
- -
The towpaths are royal: this stage offers many points of interest along the way. Only the crossing of Agen, the Pruneau capital, is a little tricky, but make the most of it to sample the wonders of this town: with its 2,000 years of history, the town reveals its heritage to you along its medieval streets. Once on the cycle path, you’ll cross a succession of 3 locks to arrive at your destination for the day: Sérignac-sur-Garonne. A 13th-century fortified town, its half-timbered houses and twisted bell tower are unique in the South-West. The Sérignac nautical stopover is a haven of tranquillity on the banks of the canal.
Night and breakfast in a 3-star hotel. Optional dinner
Day 4 - From Sérignac-sur-Garonne to Meilhan or surrounding area
- 55 à 60 km
- -
Your cycling vacation continues along the canal, with plenty of opportunities to stop off at “Le Mas d’Agenais”, with its fortified enclosure and Rembrandt’s famous painting “Christ on the Cross”, or simply enjoy a picnic on the canal banks. Pedaling along the waterways, you’ll discover fabulous sites such as the bastide town of Damazan, Villeton and its nautical base, and the rich Garonne valley and its orchards. This is a very pleasant route, especially between Buzet and Meilhan-sur-Garonne, where you can cruise under the tall plane trees, and discover Buzet-sur-Baïse and many other pretty little towns. Lodging at Fourques or Sigalens subject to availability.
Night in a Bed & Breakfast. Dinner and breakfast
Day 5 - From Meilhan or surroundings to Sauveterre-de-guyenne area
- 25 à 55 km
- -
This is one of the most beautiful stages, with so many points of interest. It’s an easy, safe route, shaded by plane trees. Cyclists will discover superb sites all along the canals and locks, such as Saint-Macaire and its vineyards, and La Réole and its thousand-year-old history.
For your last accommodation along the canal, enjoy the peace and splendor of a chambre d’hôte.
Overnight in a bed & breakfast with dinner and breakfast.
Day 6 - "The green way to Bordeaux
- 40 à 60 km
- -
This route allows you to discover the Entre-Deux Mers on 55km of trails, greenways and small roads… A real treat!
Crossing small roads in the middle of vineyards, you’ll follow the trail through the Entre-Deux Mers hills, passing through Sauveterre de Guyenne and Créon, two magnificent fortified bastides.
Following this path, you’ll arrive at your own pace on Bordeaux’s marvellous quays, running alongside the Garonne.
Bordeaux, the ancient Roman “Burdigala”, indissociable from its vineyards… shines brightly in its stone finery to dispense with artifice. The Garonne River, the heart of the city, welcomes strollers on its banks or for boat trips.
