As agreed, here’s a review of our experience in August with our bike trip on the “Bordeaux – Biarritz” vélodyssée sud.
- Itinerary and GPS app: perfect! It’s a good idea to bring an external phone battery for the longer stages. The trails are pleasant and the city crossings fairly safe. We did have one tricky moment on arrival at the Arcachon Basin, as the itinerary required us to climb some stairs and push the bikes a hundred meters into the sand… a rather complicated exercise with electric bikes! The final stretch between Bayonne and Biarritz is not pleasant, but I guess there’s no alternative!
- Electric bikes : perfect for this type of route; strong and long-range; very comfortable
- Convoying and luggage : excellent service; no delays or particular worries.
- Stages: one stage a little short and the last a little long … perhaps a rebalancing to find?
- Choice of hotels : perfect, except in Arcachon – Special mention to Mimizan and Biarritz: great addresses in different styles!
That’s it! All in all, we’re very satisfied with our trip and are already thinking about next summer…?
